Welcome to Kensington Accounting!

Kensington Accounting is a single-member LLC operated in Philadelphia, PA. Owner, Zach Cooper has been offering tax filing services at a competitive rate to help families and small business owners with tax and accounting services since 2017. Originally started as Kensington Accounting Registered Preparers (KARP), Zach runs the firm as an alternative to large CPA firms or big box stores like H&R Block or TurboTax by offering academically rigorous tax services and personalized feedback at a price small business owners and local families could afford.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kensington Accounting closed its physical office at the old Viking Mill Studio and transitioned to a fully remote practice by the end of 2022. While the plan is to operate the practice remotely until through 2027, in person meetings are an option at local coffee shops or coworking spaces or on stipend for out of town clients.

Kensington Accounting focuses on understanding how freelancers, gig workers, and small business owners operate their businesses, trades, or professions to help maximize their deductions and improve their overall returns. As someone who worked multiple jobs on W-2s and 1099s to get through college, Zach aspired to understand the complexities of tax law in these more complex labor markets to help others more easily navigate the process.

Zach graduated with a B.A. in Accounting and a B.S. in Economics, completed his Enrolled Agent designation through the IRS. In addition to running a tax practice, Zach is in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Because of this, there are periods of days or weeks during and outside of tax season where I may be unreachable. As such, the hours of operation are:

Tax question etiquette: to give equal priority to all clients, if you have an issue that is complex, please email as much detail and additional documentation you have ahead of time and schedule a meeting two days away to allow time for me to research your questions.

upcoming Considerations:

OBBBA changes are pretty much set in stone for TY 2025. If you happen to be a tip income earner or earn overtime pay, make sure you keep a personal record of those earnings to verify the amount your employer has on your W-2 or 1099.

About the Owner›

Zach Cooper is passionate about researching the complexities of tax law along the east coast as well as international law. As someone that grew up working in the gig economy, he spent a lot of time navigating tax code to stay compliant with his own taxes. As time went on, Zach noticed that more people were shifting to informal labor economies and decided to refine and pass along the knowledge he studied.
